June 14, 2005
In 2003 Spreadtrum's revenue was 30 million RMB (US$3.62 million; US$1=8.28 RMB). In 2004 mass production on generation 2.5 GSM and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) baseband processors started and 15 million units were shipped. Due to this development, yearly revenue rose to 340 million RMB (US$41.08 million), an annual increase of 1,033%.

Because of continuing mass production of these baseband processors and the ramp up of TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) baseband processors, revenue is forecasted to reach one billion RMB (US$120.82 million) in 2005.

Spreadtrum has assets of about US$500 million. The main shareholder is NEA, a US capital firm. Other important shareholders include Huahong and Lenovo. Currently, it employs 400 people in Guigu, Beijing, Shanghai and  Shenzhen.
